| hey pros here in clan, I've got an question...(pls don't call me a noob) Is an IP-BAN really helpful? Which IP does meaning? If I reconnect my internet connection (reset router, or reconnect manual) I will become, in most cases, a new IP from my provider. And to ban an IP range can't be the sense, right? Sorry but I have to ask this so I do more understand the functionallity of E.T. commands. Is it more helpful to ban the MAC of the network adapter? (if possible)

| It is so, that whoever has "cable-internet" has static IP. That means, he doesen't get a new IP eventho he resets or reinstalls the ruter/modem. For example, at my home I have ADSL - dynamic ip. I emailed my internet provider to provide me with an static IP(I was an IRC fan over 15 years ago:), and i wannted my dns to look kewl.
On the other hand for the players who don't have a static but have a dynamic IP, the IP BAN doesen't work. They gain a new IP everytime they connect to the www.
Baning a IP-range, as u said, doesen't make sense. Hope it helped a bit.
Take care, Marko

| thank you Marko... that's what I have thought. btw I didn't have an static IP but I already fix that with an dynamic dns provider Its easy and for free with http://dyn.com/dns/. (direct access also https or ftp) On the one hand with that and on the other hand with https://www.myfritz.net (like an remote control)
But it's really helpful to understand more this IP-BAN methode. wbr Nico

| MAC (physical address/number of one's network card) address is banned as well, at least in my case. And that one you can change only by installing a new one. As far as I know. Hi.
