Im creating this topic because its easyer for me to do it then to explain Bob & fletcher.
As you all noticed, our server got a problem. Lag attacks.
These attacks cannot be solved by us, nor they can/will be solved by our hosting company YCN.
As you probably have read the "server lag" topic at announcements, you can see that its a global problem.
Today I've been talking with other clan owners who also host at YCN. Most of them moved to another host or will move soon.
Since our server wont get any popular by this, we need to reconsider a couple of options.
1. Move our server to Germany (its now located in NL). This means ofcourse another IP, probably a more central location for Europe, but we still are with YCN. We cannot be sure if they still can provide us the service we always had. These lags can happen in Germany aswell because YCN uses outdated and poor servers without a good protection.
2. Move to another hosting provider. Most other clans have choosen Gameservers.com. I've been asking their experiences and so far so good. Also Tomasz is testing out a couple of other providers. However we already paid our server for a year so it means we got to do a donating run again, we can use our mainserver as redirect which means more chance for players, but on the other hand a new IP also means player losses (luckely we do not have many non-experienced regulars).
3. Stick with this server and hope for the best. This option for me is only possible when we get lag-free for a complete week. Thats why we will discuss this topic for a complete week. We will continue with checking the server for lag attacks (more then 10min of lag). So somebody should post something at the members section so that every member will report these attacks there.

Redesign of the server
Now another part of the server. Our design & to raise the popularity.
I've been monitoring the server for a couple of weeks now, added & removed things to test things out. The past weeks, the weeks we started to update the server, we managed to get 1763 new players to our server, nice amount you would say but unfortunately only around 20 people became member or regular. Which imo can be done alot better. We need to figure out ways to make these players a member or regular. Or how we say it in our store "Make a visitor a customer".
So what do we need to do?
-We need to be inventive and alternative. By means of being the first with updates and new things.
-We need to check what these players want. By means of asking and talking.
-We need to make our server easy accessible for all of them. By means of a menu button.
-We need to advertise to attract new players. By means of other community forums.
Inventive and alternative
So how do we do this? We need to keep checking mod sites for updates with Silent. We need to add new LUA modules, maybe even script ones ourselves. But we need to be smart aswell and sometimes connect to other servers to see what they got. And if there is anything new on anything, we should be the first server which gots it.
Check what players want
Keep talking with players on our server, maybe just join the server for a nice chitchat. Dont be shy and ask what they think is missing or if they got any suggestion. For example Dnek is the one who made me add Baserace to the server, just a regular player on the server who really loves Baserace. And if you want, you can direct them to our site to post something in the suggestion box.
Easy accesibility
This we are already working on, we got a menu button. But maybe we need to update it, add a custom menu to the server aswell with for example our server rules. We've already got an Xfire button here on site to easy connect to the server, but maybe its not clear enough and is it in need of an update.
Attract new players
The things Meizi did was a huge succes, created 2 topics on 2 different community's. Our website had 20 more visitors daily from both sites(!). Aswell as some oldschoolers came to check out our server. So what should we do? Register! Register at all other forums regarding ET, even other clans. Take part in discussions etc. Add our own site or server banner as signature and let the hits come in.
We also need to redesign our server a little bit.
-Do we need new banners? where do we place them, in the chatbox?
-Do we need to reconstruct our maplist again? having only the most populair ones and added a new map 1 by 1 every week where we evaluate every map for a week and either remove it or add a custom mapscript which fits our server needs?
-Is the soundpack getting annoying? do we need to remove it for the time being or create a new one?
-Is the server name good? do we need a new one?
-Does the mapvoting brings enough benifits? or should we go back to an old mapcycle again?
-Are the server settings ok? Should we modify it a little bit and if yes, which should we modify?
I hope I gave enough suggestions to start a discussion with. Get this topic hot because I really want to hear lots of opinions. We got a deadline of a week because the after I got another week of holidays and I got time to work things out.

| in my opinion we should get new server asap, and make redirect from our current one to new one
im testing atm pukawka.pl hosting. they have servers in germany, nice looking cpanel but no english version.
and they offer servers bigger than 16 slots (not all companies do that for et servers)

And I agree with Warrior! The mapcycle system only makes us play the same maps ver and over again and some maps never.. We'll never know the new maps because no one wants to play them

Keep the old server AND run a new server at a different host.
Run banners on the old server that we have a new server and let the contract end.

| I agree with tommy, this is ur chance to get new players if YCN keeps lagging and you have lag free server lot of players might hopefully probably move to your new no lagging server.

On other things:
I think banners should be better. I don't think anybody even notices them when they're appearing on top. We need to also emphasize the recruitment on our server, it's kinda poor in my opinion. From chatbox they would be more easily to be noticed!
Dnek has lots of interesting suggestions from time to time indeed, I've heard many good ones and we should point out him to visit our forums to give us more suggestions!
Let me know more of those ET community pages and I can make some topics and promote our clan! I'm also working on keeping our current topics up-to-date so everybody gets refreshed information.
Maps are fine for now. It's nice to see less played maps to be removed and fresh new ones to be added but tbh there's under 10 maps that are played constantly. We need to figure out how to take this information and benefit from it, should we only use popular maps and make a cycle out of them or something else? But I feel like mapvoting is working right now and it gives a small freedom for our visitors.
In my opinion soundpack is freaking annoying But seems like our visitors likes it because it's something different from other servers. But if there's something you want to do, limit the amount of them to be used in a row. The spam is annoying, not only for us but for some of the regular players and some players are spamming it hard and we can't react on it fast enough. New sounds possibly?
Server name should be changed. It's way too long, something more simpler, like #IA|Recruiting|XPs, or something original.
Anyways, I'll add if something new comes into my mind

| Tomasz, the hoster you are testing is only in Polish? if so we need to consider another host I think, others need to be able to configurate the server aswell

| It seems gameservers.com does not have a file redirect. I quote:
"Very similar control panels, normal ftp access but you have no file redirect with their servers, you have to use an external source or pay
for their file redirect servers."
But we could use the one from our current server for the time being.
